Women and Sarees – what a derivative! It forms the entire foundation on which Taneira, a Tata Product was brought to life. As opposed to the regularity of wearing sarees on a daily basis for older generations, today’s women consider them a symbol of empowerment. The narrative goes as such - the saree is boundless. It is fluid, versatile, and timeless—a one-size-fits-all concept that adapts to every woman’s form, much like her limitless energy. When these two come together, they create something truly powerful
So, bringing these two forces of nature together, we at Taneira, in partnership with JJ Active, present to you “Taneira Saree Run”. This event was designed as an open invitation to set aside reservations and responsibilities, and instead, indulge in a morning filled with energy, enthusiasm, and sisterhood. Thousands of women come together from all over to celebrate and just rejoice in the power and gratitude of their femininity.
JJ Active is a Bangalore based fitness company, who strongly believe that women’s fitness needs to be prioritised as much as a that of a man. The general perception amongst women is fitness is only for a privileged few who have a lot of time and can wear activewear. The Saree Run is an initiative taken in an attempt to change the narrative that fitness needs specific attire. Embracing fitness should be easy without any inhibitions.
The sun hadn’t yet fully risen, but the streets of six cities were already buzzing with a special kind of energy — the kind that comes from something extraordinary about to unfold. From Hyderabad to Pune, Ahmedabad to Bangalore, and finally, Chennai — the stage was set for a celebration unlike any other.
This was the Saree Run 2024-2025 — where tradition met movement, and joy took the front seat. Though the core idea remained the same in every city, each brought its own rhythm, its own flavour, its own charm. Together, they painted a vivid picture of what it means to be a woman — powerful, expressive, united.
From the early hours of morning, thousands of women gathered — draped in six yards of grace, courage, and colour. Nearly 20,000 strong, they came not just to run, but to reclaim space, to celebrate themselves and one another under the banner of ‘Empowering Women in a Vibrant Celebration’. And as the Saree Run began, something magical happened.
Music spilled into the streets, mingling with the beat of dancing feet and the echo of laughter. Women played games, shared stories, and cheered for complete strangers who felt like friends. There were performances that lit up the stage and quiet moments of camaraderie in the crowd. It wasn’t just a run — it was a movement. A festival of freedom. A celebration of self.
And in every city, the message rang loud and clear: this is what empowerment looks like — women showing up for themselves, wrapped in heritage, moving with joy, and dancing to the beat of their own drums. Wholeheartedly. Unapologetically. Together.
Everywhere you looked, there was a celebration of individuality — women of various ages, embracing their own styles and spirits. Sarees of every hue flowed freely, draped in endless variations. Some chose comfort, others tradition, and many rediscovered age-old draping styles handed down through generations. It was as though each saree told a story, each drape a quiet rebellion, a tribute to the values and voices stitched into its folds.
This was a day of movement — not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too. The joy was palpable. Yoga sessions, physical activities, and spontaneous moments of fun unfolded across the venues. Women let go of inhibitions and allowed themselves to just be — placing themselves first, for once, without guilt or restraint.
More than an event, it became a platform — for likeminded souls to come together and be seen, not just as mothers, wives, daughters, or professionals, but as women. As individuals. As powerful, vibrant beings revelling in their strength, their stories, and their sisterhood.
And then came the moment that stole everyone’s hearts — a young mother, her baby wrapped snugly against her, moving with grace and pride. It was a quiet, powerful image: a woman celebrating herself, her journey, her strength — even as she held the future in her arms.
That, we believe, was the true essence of this year’s Saree Run.
And as the colours fade from the day, the spirit lingers — in every thread of every saree, in every step taken, in every woman who chose to show up for herself.
The Taneira Saree Run is a movement that redefines the saree as a symbol of strength, confidence, and modern femininity. From its origins in Bengaluru, in 2016, to its expansion across cities like Kolkata, Pune, and Bangalore, the Saree Run has evolved into a vibrant celebration of womanhood, inclusivity, and empowerment.
Through our partnership with JJ Active, we continue to amplify the message that tradition and an active lifestyle can beautifully coexist. Over time, the saree has become a garment of choice—it’s a canvas for women to tell their stories of resilience, individuality, and triumph. This initiative serves as a powerful reminder that self-care and fitness should be a priority, even for women who devote themselves to their families and communities.
As we look ahead, we’re excited to take this movement to more cities, reaching and inspiring even more women to embrace their heritage while confidently asserting their strength. Stay connected with us on social media for updates, and join us at our next Saree Run in your city!
Together, let’s celebrate womanhood, honour our traditions, and move forward with confidence, grace, and solidarity. See you at the finish line!
