Even The Tiniest Details Matter When It’s Kanjivaram
Kanjivaram sarees by Taneira are all about opulence, grace and beauty. Our exquisite sarees are distinguished by their intricate borders, rich zari pallus, and elaborate silk motifs on the body. Kanjivaram silk sarees have a sacred place in Hindu mythology as Lord Vishnu was believed to have woven this fabric out of sun rays for himself. According to Hindu mythology, the Kanchi weavers are also said to be the descendants of Sage Markanda, the master weaver of Gods. He could weave tissue out of lotus fibres and craft different fabrics for different gods.
The Kanchi weavers of Taneira are seasoned artisans who spin mulberry silk by hand with a skill that has been passed down through generations. Typical of Kanjivaram silk sarees, these threads are woven tissue from lotus fibres. The silk is also known as ‘pattu.’ Therefore, the sarees are also known as Kanchipuram pattu sarees. The body and borders of the sarees are woven separately and then interlocked using the Korvai technique. Our traditional Kanjivaram silk sarees have diamond shapes in the border and needle-like stripes on the body that lend it a lustrous look. They are also embellished with real gold and silver zari, further adding to their royal status.
Kanjivaram sarees are deeply rooted in religion and culture, and echo the ethos of the land and its people. The motifs, patterns and themes on the Kanjivaram sarees are inspired by the South Indian temples and each have their significance. Some of the most common motifs and designs that are found on Taneira’s Kanjivaram silk saree are:
-
Anapakshi - Mythical bird with the body of a swan and plumes of a peacock
-
Yaanai - Elephant
-
Rudraksham - Seeds used as prayer beads of Lord Shiva
-
Vanasingaram - Hunting scenes
-
Kamalam - Lotus
-
Mayil - Peacock
-
Iruthalai Pakshi - Mythical bird with two heads
-
Singham - Lion
-

-

-

-

Although, Taneira believes in marrying trend and tradition, we keep it authentic when it comes to typical Kanjivaram colours. Ravishing, sensuous and captivating, these colours are all inspired by nature. For example, Tamarai inspired by pink lotus, Nagapazham inspired by yellow mangoes, Arakku meaning maroon colour, Kathiripu as in brinjal purple. These vibrant hues of celebratory colours are all you need to deck up in the festive and wedding season.
